Perlui lay on the warm sand in the deep shade beneath a great palm, whose trunk deformed towards the beach, providing a sanctuary against the sun’s cruel blast.
Perlui knew the fishers had taken their boats out earlier than the sun rose. They now bobbed upon the gentle swell, with hand lines deep in frigid green water just above the sunless sphere of midnight black. The perfect depth to attract the tuna; a single fish fetches a month’s living from the broker’s pier.
Perlui fingers the dice nestled in his pocket, nefarious devices these; comprising bait to finance a wastrel’s life.
i love the sense of tranquility that you conveyed in this story. nicely done.
This gritty little tale is a perfect example that there are more ways than one to skin a tuna! Liked it!
Mr. Warner,
Pleased to have caught a fellow workman’s eye.
