Bathroom Business

Bathroom Business

By Monica McGarry

Apprehensive and an abecedarian, I met him in the bathroom. He sat on the edge of the tub, his makeshift office. He asked me questions I didn’t know the answer to: about dabs, amphets, crank, uppers. I slipped the bill into his sweaty palm in exchange for a musty, moss filled bag.

“Be careful, that will fuck your shit up.”

A strange caution from someone that just made a profit off my impulse. I smoke until my head threatens to roll off my shoulders: a glutton for an unfamiliar feeling. Sensation dissipates. Panic, repentance present themselves.

He did something to me.

The Power of Imagery with Nina Schuyler

September 12 & 13 on Zoom
Enrollment closes Thursday, September 3 at 7:00 PM Pacific

If your descriptions are vivid but your stories still feel thin, this workshop is for you.

Join award-winning author Nina Schuyler to learn the difference between description, which tells a reader what things look like, and imagery, which carries plot, character, and meaning at the same time.

In just two days, you'll learn to choose images that hold emotion without naming it, pair them so each one deepens the other, and build patterns that gather meaning as the story moves.
