Beautiful Wedding

Beautiful Wedding

By Daniela Chamorro

Camila stands in the street, gray cardigan covering her nightgown. Lily goes inside, costume bride’s veil floating behind her.

Soon, Camila will enter the waiting taxi. She’ll answer her sister’s twenty messages—On my way. She’ll sit awake, prepare for crisp lab coats, for blank walls of hospital hallways, for her mother’s pale face.

But now she looks at the white wooden house with its matching porch swing; thinks of lace dresses, vanilla frosting on the groom’s face as the bride laughs; pretends life is as simple as it seems on Maple Street on the eve of her best friend’s wedding.

The Power of Imagery with Nina Schuyler

September 12 & 13 on Zoom
Enrollment closes Thursday, September 3 at 7:00 PM Pacific

If your descriptions are vivid but your stories still feel thin, this workshop is for you.

Join award-winning author Nina Schuyler to learn the difference between description, which tells a reader what things look like, and imagery, which carries plot, character, and meaning at the same time.

In just two days, you'll learn to choose images that hold emotion without naming it, pair them so each one deepens the other, and build patterns that gather meaning as the story moves.

Nice imagery. I love the juxtaposition of the “white” images, one happy and one much more serious. Great job!

A bittersweet story. Both happy and sad at the same time. Peaceful, normal Maple Street vs hospital’s blank walls and mother’s pale face. Wonderful writing.
