Beethoven’s Fifth

March 5, 2020 3 Comments

Beethoven’s Fifth

By Kate Casper

They planned a rendezvous.

She waited silently. Expectant. Impatient.

Late, he hired a coach, forged ahead in the rain. Hooves churned mud. Water flooded wheel ruts.

Thunder startled her. She flashed a glance at the grandfather clock.

He and the driver stood in knee-deep mud, shoulders against the coach, straining to free the trapped wheel.

She shivered and heard a rushing in her ears. Nerves or rain battering windows?

They freed the coach, lashed the horses.

Realizing her foolishness, she slipped out the back.

He rushed into the lobby. Impatient. Expectant.

A pounding rhythm and four discordant notes tore his heart.

The Power of Imagery with Nina Schuyler

September 12 & 13 on Zoom
Enrollment closes Thursday, September 3 at 7:00 PM Pacific

If your descriptions are vivid but your stories still feel thin, this workshop is for you.

Join award-winning author Nina Schuyler to learn the difference between description, which tells a reader what things look like, and imagery, which carries plot, character, and meaning at the same time.

In just two days, you'll learn to choose images that hold emotion without naming it, pair them so each one deepens the other, and build patterns that gather meaning as the story moves.

I enjoyed this, I could visualize it all. I especially liked the inversion of the words “expectant” and Impatient”. Thanks for a good start to my morning.
