Best Laid Plans

Best Laid Plans

By J Hardy Carroll

The plan was to drive up while the guards were wheeling the bags of money from the bank to the armored car, two men jumping out to make the grab while a third covered them with a Tommy gun, the car shoveling out copious smoke.

The smoke machine was genius. Ray bought it from a stage show gone bust in those early Depression years, strapped it to the running board of his Terraplane.

The guards couldn’t see to shoot, but Ray couldn’t see to drive. He crashed into a bus. They barely escaped.

The bags were full of mail, not money.

The Power of Imagery with Nina Schuyler

September 12 & 13 on Zoom
Enrollment closes Thursday, September 3 at 7:00 PM Pacific

If your descriptions are vivid but your stories still feel thin, this workshop is for you.

Join award-winning author Nina Schuyler to learn the difference between description, which tells a reader what things look like, and imagery, which carries plot, character, and meaning at the same time.

In just two days, you'll learn to choose images that hold emotion without naming it, pair them so each one deepens the other, and build patterns that gather meaning as the story moves.

Don’t you hate it when that happens (fun story, too).
