Beyond Love

Beyond Love

By Jim Byrnes

I’m suddenly struck by the revelation that I can see her life reflected in her eyes.  Bottomless pools of the bluest blue imaginable—surely the windows to her soul—filled to overflowing with all she has seen and experienced.

Lines and creases, especially around the eyes, gently traverse her beautiful face. Well-earned evidence of a life well-lived.

I have loved her since we were in the fifth grade, long before I understood what the word ‘love’ truly meant.

Married seventy years now, running out of time but never out of love, and magically connected from the second I first saw her.

The Power of Imagery with Nina Schuyler

September 12 & 13 on Zoom
Enrollment closes Thursday, September 3 at 7:00 PM Pacific

If your descriptions are vivid but your stories still feel thin, this workshop is for you.

Join award-winning author Nina Schuyler to learn the difference between description, which tells a reader what things look like, and imagery, which carries plot, character, and meaning at the same time.

In just two days, you'll learn to choose images that hold emotion without naming it, pair them so each one deepens the other, and build patterns that gather meaning as the story moves.

Beautiful. Assuming the story is true, and about the life of its author and his wife (not necessary, of course, for a work of fiction), it’s also a testament to writing when you’re in your late eighties or nineties. Congrats on your writing and long life!..
