Binge

Binge

By Dante A Murray

Cold sweats. An ice pick through the back of my hand and waterboarded dreams enter in with black spiders falling from the ceiling as I scream.

Two rooms down the hall a coarse, guttural croaking begins around 1:30 a.m. and continues through the early hours of the morning until suddenly ceasing.

I imagine it stopping because someone, perhaps myself, has placed a pillow over the source and pressed until there is no struggle.

A bit harsh? Karma implications? Yet the homicidal Buddhist I am spawning never misses a mantra repetition.

My breathing is shallow, uneven.

Warm breeze, hallowed morning light.

The Power of Imagery with Nina Schuyler

September 12 & 13 on Zoom
Enrollment closes Thursday, September 3 at 7:00 PM Pacific

If your descriptions are vivid but your stories still feel thin, this workshop is for you.

Join award-winning author Nina Schuyler to learn the difference between description, which tells a reader what things look like, and imagery, which carries plot, character, and meaning at the same time.

In just two days, you'll learn to choose images that hold emotion without naming it, pair them so each one deepens the other, and build patterns that gather meaning as the story moves.

Bizarre, surreal, a hodgepodge of the macabre–hey, this is my kind of story!
