A black-capped chickadee lands in the forsythia shrub whose branches I’m clipping. So close, I admire its pretty black cap and gray-and-white wings. The chickadee’s eyes follow me, holding my twiggy bouquet, then the bird flits back to the bird feeder.
Is it Dad, who always filled the feeder in the backyard? Or maybe it’s Mom, who always put forsythia cuttings in a vase to force the buds to bloom yellow. It must be Mom, who used to call every day wanting to know what was new.
She sent the bird to say hello. “Chick a dee dee dee,” it sings.
Beautiful, well written tribute to the memory of your Mom and Dad! Good Job!
Very nice. So much in so few words!
(Dad filled the feeder. Squirrels did their best to empty it.)
This is so endearing to me. I’m sure my mother sends me birds and curious ideas from time to time.
What a lovely portrait of love
Tender and warm.
