It was Saint Andrew’s Eve, the only night each year I could go out. I craved alcohol, badly. I needed an Addicts Anonymous meeting and nourishment.
The church had both. I saw the coffee and stale sandwiches. Pass. Then I saw him. Drunk, barely standing. “Hell with this,” I said to him. “Want to go for a drink?”
As we walked away, I prayed silently, Thank you, Saint Andrew, patron saint of vampires, for the food and drink before me. I sunk my teeth into his neck.
I am nothing if not economical. Why not satisfy both my cravings at once?
