Heaven was at the top of the hill. From here, they heard the rousing trumpets of angels. Faint, like elevator music. Yet no souls stepped forward, for they had all read the makeshift sign: Down for Maintenance. Do Not Use Trail.
“What now?” one woman asked.
“I was supposed to enter paradise hours ago!” another protested.
“Wait, is this purgatory?” someone shrieked. Others quickly joined, the small space soon brimming with overdue souls. Then a figure appeared above.
“Oh, my God…”
“No, no, just me,” the maintenance man said. “Don’t worry, folks, I’ll have heaven back open in just a moment.”
This was very enjoyable.
Oh my goodness, what a great piece in such a small space. Such a riot! Great job Thomas 🙂
Much appreciated Jennifer, thank you.
Doesn’t sound like those impatient souls were very worthy entrants to Heaven. 😉
I love the title
You could feel the impatience of the souls. Well done!
Very clever. Nice work.
Very funny!
Expectation on earth and on heaven’s doorstep. Right?! Thank you!
