Blueberries

Blueberries

By Amanda Glassman

Every morning, we’d pick blueberries across the bayou ’cause that’s where Momma said they was sweetest. Me an’ my brother Ben, who didn’t yet come up to my shoulders that summer.

We didn’t go to school, ‘cause daddy said school wasn’t for the workin’ kind. Which I guess we were. Ben was too young for school anyway.

Back then, I didn’t know what I know now.

That life isn’t full of swampy meadows, sweet blue fruit that’ll stain your teeth, and butterfly kisses.

It couldn’t be crushed, served piping hot in Momma’s pie.

The bayou was my friend.

Until it wasn’t.

The Power of Imagery with Nina Schuyler

September 12 & 13 on Zoom
Enrollment closes Thursday, September 3 at 7:00 PM Pacific

If your descriptions are vivid but your stories still feel thin, this workshop is for you.

Join award-winning author Nina Schuyler to learn the difference between description, which tells a reader what things look like, and imagery, which carries plot, character, and meaning at the same time.

In just two days, you'll learn to choose images that hold emotion without naming it, pair them so each one deepens the other, and build patterns that gather meaning as the story moves.
