Blunt

By Bobby Warner

He picked her up in a singles joint on lower 40th. They hit it off right away, and she invited him to her apartment, which was just down the street.

She scrounged up half a bottle of bourbon and they had a couple more stiff drinks, then undressed and jumped into bed. He reached for her, then drew back, twitching his nose. “Damn, woman, don’t you ever take a bath or change your underwear?”

After she kicked him out, he stood for awhile looking back at her building and wondering if he were extra nice would she give him another chance.

The Power of Imagery with Nina Schuyler

September 12 & 13 on Zoom
Enrollment closes Thursday, September 3 at 7:00 PM Pacific

If your descriptions are vivid but your stories still feel thin, this workshop is for you.

Join award-winning author Nina Schuyler to learn the difference between description, which tells a reader what things look like, and imagery, which carries plot, character, and meaning at the same time.

In just two days, you'll learn to choose images that hold emotion without naming it, pair them so each one deepens the other, and build patterns that gather meaning as the story moves.

Love this. I was engaged on a very sensory level…and really got his conflict. Is this how young men learn tact? “Hey Baby…how about we start with a shower…let me wash you all over. LOL

Hi, Lisa. Thanks for your comments! The fellow in my story is just not the tactful kind, on any level–and I doubt he’ll EVER get a second chance.

Aww! But I’m confused. If they hit it off right away there must have been a reason. On the other hand smell is very important – I know I’ve knocked people back because they didn’t smell right and I’m not talking B.O. So not sure if it’s a small tragic waste or a right decision or a social faux pas.

I’m surprised he made it to her room in the first place. Fun story.

He could let her cool off, buy another bottle, go back and blame it all on his mustache.
