Body

By Chisom Nsiegbunam

I stumble upon my husband inside my best friend on what is supposed to be our matrimonial bed. Laughter. Laughter escapes my throat. It ricochets off the white walls we painted together, off the Scandinavian decor we DIY-ed off Pinterest, off their naked limbs, her sneering eyes, and smashes into my face.

I carry the shame dripping down to my toes to the kitchen. Gulp a bottle of Coke and spread spoonfuls of mayonnaise on bread. Delete my gym registration and many intermittent fastings. Ignore my obssessive-calorie-calculating brain. Forget that her body reminds me of what mine has forgotten to be.

The Power of Imagery with Nina Schuyler

September 12 & 13 on Zoom
Enrollment closes Thursday, September 3 at 7:00 PM Pacific

If your descriptions are vivid but your stories still feel thin, this workshop is for you.

Join award-winning author Nina Schuyler to learn the difference between description, which tells a reader what things look like, and imagery, which carries plot, character, and meaning at the same time.

In just two days, you'll learn to choose images that hold emotion without naming it, pair them so each one deepens the other, and build patterns that gather meaning as the story moves.

Some sad reality in that. Nice job.
