Boomerangst

By Tisa Garrison

She was young, cute, fun—a great dance teacher. He was a handsome, smooth-talking Irishman. They wanted each other. Why not? WWII was over.

No dreams of picket fences, post-war cottages, or forming a family. They just wanted to “do it.” The pill wasn’t available yet.

They coupled, then wed: City Hall…only her heartbroken parents attended.

Six months later he was restless. She taught ballroom until her belly was too big. He drove off in an 18-wheeler seeking adventure. She moved in with her folks.

Then I arrived. Grandparents kept me. She moved on.

Then a consequence, now a Boomer.

The Power of Imagery with Nina Schuyler

September 12 & 13 on Zoom
Enrollment closes Thursday, September 3 at 7:00 PM Pacific

If your descriptions are vivid but your stories still feel thin, this workshop is for you.

Join award-winning author Nina Schuyler to learn the difference between description, which tells a reader what things look like, and imagery, which carries plot, character, and meaning at the same time.

In just two days, you'll learn to choose images that hold emotion without naming it, pair them so each one deepens the other, and build patterns that gather meaning as the story moves.

I admire your use of an impersonal “she”
    and love your title.

Good point… I know writing is cathartic… I have some part of my life in most of the stories I write.
