Boring Apocalypse

December 16, 2021 12 Comments

By Christina Joy

I expected the end of civilization to be exciting. Not so much. Food, water, and toilet paper disappeared from store shelves. Gas stations closed one, two, then all their pumps. The latest social media trends and celebrity clickbait buried news of assassinations and coups. People divided into tribes: red hats, blue balls, nihilists, survivalists. We were too busy fighting to notice the one percenters fading from view; those fuckers are probably in their trillion-dollar bunkers, drinking champagne wishes and eating caviar dreams. As for me? I’m boiling water and eating fucking Fancy Feast. I thought there would at least be zombies.

The Power of Imagery with Nina Schuyler

September 12 & 13 on Zoom
Enrollment closes Thursday, September 3 at 7:00 PM Pacific

If your descriptions are vivid but your stories still feel thin, this workshop is for you.

Join award-winning author Nina Schuyler to learn the difference between description, which tells a reader what things look like, and imagery, which carries plot, character, and meaning at the same time.

In just two days, you'll learn to choose images that hold emotion without naming it, pair them so each one deepens the other, and build patterns that gather meaning as the story moves.

Not so much a story, more social commentary. Nicely done. Kudos.

In the midst of the narrative the poignant “buried news” and delineation of “tribes” speaks to this moment of revelation.
