He’d been at his computer for almost twenty-four hours, checking local news sites for updates about the little boy who had gone missing yesterday.
The child was just two. A baby, he thought, and the comments showed that the boy was loved. They prayed for his safe return.
He was fascinated. His life was boring now, and clicking links helped. Foolishly, he chose a video of the mother being interviewed.
She tried to speak. His speakers replayed her wails: “Please find my baby and bring him back!”
“Yes…please,” he sobbed, as he turned toward the dead child on his couch.
This is an unusual story told very well.
Shocking ending.
Sad and dark. Good story with a twist that I somewhat expected but was still surprising.
A minor distraction for me was that 24 hours is a long time to be checking local news sites. News stories aren’t updated often enough to keep the MC constantly finding new information. He would have to be reading the same stories over and over.
Other than that, it’s well done.
Congrats.
I am indeed flabbergasted. An amazing ending. Well-written. Short and precise
