“Outside, Mickey,” said Mom. “Yeah, it’s cold, but cats aren’t welcome in this house at night.” The door thumped shut.
Mickey trotted to the side of the house, where a half-bushel basket sat waiting, attached to a rope hung from Jimmy’s second-story bedroom window.
Mickey hopped in and crouched. Presently the window opened.
“Ready, boy?” said Jimmy.
Mickey sat still as the basket ascended to the warm room, the soft bed.
Next morning, Jimmy lowered Mickey back down. He scampered to the porch.
Soon Mom opened the door. “Good morning. I’m glad you survived the cold.”
Jimmy chuckled over his Cheerios.
What a riot. I chuckled over my coffee. 😉
Cute!
I loved this. Showing cats at their clever best!
Thanks, all. This actually happened when I was a kid. “Jimmy” was my brother, who saw Mickey in the basket and strung the rope up to his window. To his surprise, the cat stayed in the basked during ascent! This little trick went on all winter!
Really like this; bond between cat and human. My cat Cat used to climb a tree to get in, and go on walks with me and Sam the dog.
A lovely story.
Oh yes! Kids, they have hearts of gold where animals are concerned.
Loved it.
Our kids used to smuggle our small dogs in from the laundry, thinking we didn’t know…
