Changing Times

April 18, 2022 10 Comments

By Jennifer Lai

Cupid rushed toward the coffeehouse with a quiver of fifty arrows. He needed to work his magic today. Jewelry, chocolate, and flower shops depended on him for their Valentine’s Day sales. The café brimmed with patrons engrossed in phones and laptops, deafened by earphones. His first arrow hit a redhead browsing animal videos. His second, a stately gentleman on social media. His third, a brunette taking selfies with a frosty pink concoction. Not one looked up. They didn’t even blush. Cupid shook his head with a sigh, then ordered an iced coffee and asked for an application. He could start tomorrow.

The Power of Imagery with Nina Schuyler

September 12 & 13 on Zoom
Enrollment closes Thursday, September 3 at 7:00 PM Pacific

If your descriptions are vivid but your stories still feel thin, this workshop is for you.

Join award-winning author Nina Schuyler to learn the difference between description, which tells a reader what things look like, and imagery, which carries plot, character, and meaning at the same time.

In just two days, you'll learn to choose images that hold emotion without naming it, pair them so each one deepens the other, and build patterns that gather meaning as the story moves.

Indifference may last long after tomorrow. Would cupid be so stubborn? Good morale! Congrats! Hemingway level!
