Chased

By David Jordan

The little girl fled her pursuer down the quiet suburban street in the middle of the night.

“Come back,” the man said.

“Leave me alone,” she panted.

Her vision blurry with tears, she tripped on the sidewalk under a lamppost and turned over to her elbows.

The man caught up and stood just out of the lamplight’s glow.

“Stay away from me!”

“Calm down,” the man said.

“Stay away,” she said.

He’d grown used to her frenzied peak, which no pill could quiet altogether.

He stepped into the light, and she recognized his face.

He said, “Honey, it’s me, your dad.”

The Power of Imagery with Nina Schuyler

September 12 & 13 on Zoom
Enrollment closes Thursday, September 3 at 7:00 PM Pacific

If your descriptions are vivid but your stories still feel thin, this workshop is for you.

Join award-winning author Nina Schuyler to learn the difference between description, which tells a reader what things look like, and imagery, which carries plot, character, and meaning at the same time.

In just two days, you'll learn to choose images that hold emotion without naming it, pair them so each one deepens the other, and build patterns that gather meaning as the story moves.

Good twist ending. I guessed it might be someone she knew–but not her dad! Good job.
