“Am I special?” Lambkin asked his mother. The ewe and her newborn lamb were nestled close together in the sheepfold straw.
“Yes, you are, my darling. You were born without blemish. That makes you the chosen one.”
A bearded man wearing a fancy robe opened the gate. He picked up Lambkin and walked out, closing the gate.
“Maaa!” Lambkin bleated, struggling in panic. “Why is this man taking me?”
“Be brave, my son. A great honor is bestowed on you.”
Mother wondered bitterly, What wrong have we done to deserve this? Why does the Creator demand the sacrifice of the innocents?
Timeless allegory. How long will mothers witness their children sacrificed?
I also felt bitter.
