Civic Duty

July 11, 2024 7 Comments

By Jeanne Anderson

Pausing to allow my beagle, Sophie, to do her business in the patch of grass, I froze. Rand and his new girlfriend sauntered out of Macy’s, carrying bags full of the Christmas gifts I would never buy with him.

Rand snuck out of the house two weeks ago. Without a word. Later breaking up via text.

As he passed, I picked up the growling Sophie and faced the Christmas window. Rand didn’t see me deposit the leaking gift from Sophie into his bulging bag.

It was a good thing I always did my civic duty and picked up after my dog.

The Power of Imagery with Nina Schuyler

September 12 & 13 on Zoom
Enrollment closes Thursday, September 3 at 7:00 PM Pacific

If your descriptions are vivid but your stories still feel thin, this workshop is for you.

Join award-winning author Nina Schuyler to learn the difference between description, which tells a reader what things look like, and imagery, which carries plot, character, and meaning at the same time.

In just two days, you'll learn to choose images that hold emotion without naming it, pair them so each one deepens the other, and build patterns that gather meaning as the story moves.
