Cliff Hike

June 16, 2023 5 Comments

By Denise D'Souza

The three friends stopped for a breather on Beachy Head, the final headland of a range of cliffs known as the Seven Sisters. Emma took a swig of coffee from her flask.

Abby had her head in the guidebook. “Listen to this: ‘The steep dips that separate each of the seven crests from the next are the remnants of dry valleys being gradually eroded by the sea.’ Isn’t that fascinating?”

Emma, her mouth full of ham sandwich, nodded.

“It was worth doing all seven for this spectacular view, hey, Becky?”

Becky barely looked up. She was too busy counting her blisters.

The Power of Imagery with Nina Schuyler

September 12 & 13 on Zoom
Enrollment closes Thursday, September 3 at 7:00 PM Pacific

If your descriptions are vivid but your stories still feel thin, this workshop is for you.

Join award-winning author Nina Schuyler to learn the difference between description, which tells a reader what things look like, and imagery, which carries plot, character, and meaning at the same time.

In just two days, you'll learn to choose images that hold emotion without naming it, pair them so each one deepens the other, and build patterns that gather meaning as the story moves.

    Hello Denise,
Nice! Each hiker’s “view” of the view of the Seven Sisters varied. Well done.
