Clockwatching

By Joachim Heijndermans

They say not to look at the clock when you work. It makes time go slower. But I’m fighting the urge real hard right now. I’m the one on piloting shift. The ship is going at light speed. Time is all relative and folded and Einsteined and shit, so for all I know centuries have passed. Tens of centuries. For eons I must have sat here, piloting the vessel to the new world.

I just can’t help myself. I quickly peek at the screen, just to see how long…

Five minutes! Only five?

This is going to be a long ride.

The Power of Imagery with Nina Schuyler

September 12 & 13 on Zoom
Enrollment closes Thursday, September 3 at 7:00 PM Pacific

If your descriptions are vivid but your stories still feel thin, this workshop is for you.

Join award-winning author Nina Schuyler to learn the difference between description, which tells a reader what things look like, and imagery, which carries plot, character, and meaning at the same time.

In just two days, you'll learn to choose images that hold emotion without naming it, pair them so each one deepens the other, and build patterns that gather meaning as the story moves.

Time is a relative of darkness. Good story, Joachim.

Oh my. That one filled me with horror. It’s like when you’re at an airport and your flight is delayed by many hours. Time takes on a whole new dimension. Great story.
