Coffee-Flavoured

May 27, 2022 10 Comments

By Paige Aoki

You take your first kiss under an azure sky and discover love is the taste of coffee on your lips. Or the feathery touch of fingers on an overheated brow.

Your eyes meet, you clasp hands, your fingers sticky from melted ice cream, and you think of love as a name spoken with a caress of tongues in a sugar-sweet mouth.

You’re twenty-five, and the grass smells fresh and pungent where it crushes beneath your back, the shape of you pressed into the springy green blades.

The river rushes in the distance, barely audible beneath the thundering beats of your heart.

The Power of Imagery with Nina Schuyler

September 12 & 13 on Zoom
Enrollment closes Thursday, September 3 at 7:00 PM Pacific

If your descriptions are vivid but your stories still feel thin, this workshop is for you.

Join award-winning author Nina Schuyler to learn the difference between description, which tells a reader what things look like, and imagery, which carries plot, character, and meaning at the same time.

In just two days, you'll learn to choose images that hold emotion without naming it, pair them so each one deepens the other, and build patterns that gather meaning as the story moves.

The way this story is told through the senses makes it seem fresh and immediate. At the same time, it comes across as authentic to the emotion being examined rather than a mere list of sensory details. I call that good writing. Thank you for this piece, Paige.
