“Hey, old man! Where’s Sammy’s Liquor store?”
“T’ain’t hard. Down ’round 2 miles, there’s gonna be some track…go about another mile. Road bends a bit, and you’re gonna see a baseball diamond. School’s on, gonna be empty, but boy my son hit a few there. Go north. Sharp. Road is gonna wind. Lots of side roads will tempt you. Don’t take ’em! Turn east when you see two banks, just past the big oak. Good luck!”
The car screeched off.
“Bill, that ain’t the way to Sammy’s.”
“I know, dear. Sent ’em to Verizon. What young fool doesn’t have a smart phone?”
Excellent job, Mr Gill. You surprised me with all the detail, not realising you had a punch line coming up to rescue you in 101.
Thank you Hariod! With 101 words I think I would have a hard time with drama…a punch line seemed easier! lol
Congratulations, and well done, Swarn. I LOL’d at the end. That’ll teach ’em. Lol
Thank you Victoria! 🙂
This would be a decent ad
Thanks! It would be kind of a funny ad, I agree. Although I am not a big Verizon fan, so I probably shouldn’t give them any ideas. LOL
Nicely done, sir!
Thank you Tish! Very much appreciated!
Hahahaha, cracking ending Swarn with a lead-up very smartly-wrought. I know how tricky this can be of course, well done that man!
Thank you Esme! And thank you for letting all your readers know about this site! It was fun. Maybe I’ll even do another!
Thank you for the fun, upbeat attitude reflected in your writing.
Thank you! And thank you for taking the time to read and leave a comment! Cheers.
Clever. 🙂
Having asked for directions in rural areas, I found this fantastic. Spot on.
Thank you Dan! I think most of us have experienced such directions in our life. lol
Thank you Nan!
Real fun! Amazing. Loved it!
Thank you for reading and for your kind response. 🙂 Cheers.
Fantastic. And I agree with Josh. This would make a good ad!
Thank you for your kind words and taking the time to comment. 🙂
I will laugh about this for a long time to come. A great misdirection about misdirection – masterful job. You may want to consider comedy as an addtional career.
Thank you for your kind response. I’ve always wanted to be a skit writer or a satirist, but then I again I also wanted to be a meteorology professor. I chose the one that seemed a more sure source of income. lol
Hahahaha! Very well done Sir Swarn! Enjoyed this immensely! In fact, I’m quite sure I’ve met Sammy many many times down these parts. (wink)
Haha….thank you Professor!
Love it!
Thank you!
Great fun. 🙂
Thank you so much!
Lol I wasn’t expecting that level of mischief! Lesson learned 🙂 🙂 Great story, Swarn!!
Thank you! After reading comments I am most pleased that I could write such a short story that could still have an unexpected ending. 🙂 I have no choice but to pat myself on the back! lol
