Consuming Time Unwisely

June 23, 2024 5 Comments

By A.C. Perri

Ah! The present, the slippery eel it is. I avoid distractions—technological time-stealers; impossible not to have them, expensive to keep them. Shambolic, the future seems; if not doing this, that, or the other, I am altogether ending in nothing. I truly miss the last century; time wasn’t as elusive; back then, one was able to accomplish so much more.

~

Now, I sit staring at a screen burdened by too many windows open. One click, and I lose everything…Ugh! Maybe I belong in the late Cretaceous period. A T-rex would have an easier time understanding a computer compared to me.

The Power of Imagery with Nina Schuyler

September 12 & 13 on Zoom
Enrollment closes Thursday, September 3 at 7:00 PM Pacific

If your descriptions are vivid but your stories still feel thin, this workshop is for you.

Join award-winning author Nina Schuyler to learn the difference between description, which tells a reader what things look like, and imagery, which carries plot, character, and meaning at the same time.

In just two days, you'll learn to choose images that hold emotion without naming it, pair them so each one deepens the other, and build patterns that gather meaning as the story moves.

    Hello AC,
Stupendous opening capturing mood, and emotion, and the reader’s immediate interest, so the ending was a little let-down for me.

It seems as we expand we retract.

I would say time is indeed a slippery eel. One captured by strong hands, waiting for something else, while knowing altogether the guts will eventually be cut open from them.

That being said, love the tone of this story. It’s though provoking. What is our life purpose if by doing more we don’t actually have time to do anything meaningful!?

” I’m altogether ending in nothing (…) One click and I lose everything…”

    Yeah. Sounds about right.

    One click and its gone.
    But was life ever simple?

Great line, “The present, slippery eel it is.” Excellent depiction of falling into an internet rabbit hole.

Shamblolic. Will be added to my personal lexicon.
