Converting Alison

August 28, 2023 8 Comments

By Mel Goldberg

Every morning at exactly 6 AM, my cell phone buzzes. And it’s always the same voice.

“Jason, it’s Alison.”

“Alison…”

“The experiment worked. Converting my molecules to electronic impulses. But it’s not what I expected.”

“Alison, the molecular conversion failed. Your heart stopped and we couldn’t revive you. The only thing that converted was your voice.”

“No. That can’t be.”

My cell phone pings and ‘call ended’ appears.

We ceased our molecular experiments at the electronic lab, but I know tomorrow morning I’ll be awakened by my cell phone and I will hear, “Jason, it’s Alison.”

It will forever be Alison.

The Power of Imagery with Nina Schuyler

September 12 & 13 on Zoom
Enrollment closes Thursday, September 3 at 7:00 PM Pacific

If your descriptions are vivid but your stories still feel thin, this workshop is for you.

Join award-winning author Nina Schuyler to learn the difference between description, which tells a reader what things look like, and imagery, which carries plot, character, and meaning at the same time.

In just two days, you'll learn to choose images that hold emotion without naming it, pair them so each one deepens the other, and build patterns that gather meaning as the story moves.

Nice story, I believe that we already have something similar with Siri and Alexis, except we have to call them.
