Cosmic Dispensary

March 4, 2022 7 Comments

By Trevor Berndt

Typical space tourist. “Gimme some meds.”

“Long flight? Choco-lag good enough for ya?”

“Yes, move it! Only ten minutes to launch, pal!”

My fingers raced across the data panel. There, D13.

This was the good stuff, helped with jet lag.

A spiral plunked it down the chute.

Odd, I remembered the tablets being smaller. New formula?

I scanned his payment. “Have a nice…”

But he was already gone. “Day, sir…”

Call it a hunch. I checked the panel again. Whoops.

Choco-lag was D12. I had given the man Choco-lax for his interplanetary flight.

Oh well, he’ll probably blame the shuttle food.

The Power of Imagery with Nina Schuyler

September 12 & 13 on Zoom
Enrollment closes Thursday, September 3 at 7:00 PM Pacific

If your descriptions are vivid but your stories still feel thin, this workshop is for you.

Join award-winning author Nina Schuyler to learn the difference between description, which tells a reader what things look like, and imagery, which carries plot, character, and meaning at the same time.

In just two days, you'll learn to choose images that hold emotion without naming it, pair them so each one deepens the other, and build patterns that gather meaning as the story moves.

Oops. We all make mistakes. I enjoyed reading the story but I wouldn’t like to be in the rude customer’s shoes!
