It was a truce; an uneasy truce, but a truce that worked.
During the day, they stayed in the crawl space under the house. It was spacious with curtains of thick spider webs. The ground had a patina of dried cat and mouse shit.
At sundown, they moved under the front porch. It was not as roomy but certainly more dangerous to family members or unsuspecting guests.
And at night, only one of them was allowed into the house.
He assumed they took turns or had some form of rotation in place.
Only one was allowed under his bed each night.
Like this one David! I thought it might be monster related, but imaginary monsters are even better; great twist.
Nicely done with a bit of mystery
This summoned up memories from childhood. Well done, Dave!
Are they cats? kids? mice? snakes? monsters? unbalanced humans? This is a great “Keep them guessing” story, David.
