“Why do I have to go live with a stranger?” I snuggled closer to her, burying my face in her breast. She reached beneath my chin and tilted my face toward hers.
“Mommy just needs a few days, maybe a week. Then I’ll come get you. I promise.”
My lips trembled but I knew my tears would hurt her so I clamped them down.
“If I’m good, will you come tomorrow?”
“Oh baby girl! You’re always good!” Now she was crying. She was hugging me too tightly but I bore it in silence, as if I knew I’d get no more.

Such emotion I so few words. Great story!
Such a sad story told very well.
Just a few words to convey so much deprivation. Well done.
