Dave’s Burgers

February 3, 2022 6 Comments

By Joe Surkiewicz

Everyone in the village was sick of pizza. When Dave’s Better Burgers opened, a line snaked down the block past the general store to the town clerk’s office. Then Bob’s Not-Bad Burgers opened for business. Folks flocked there, and Dave’s almost went under—until a reporter revealed that Bob made his burgers from ground cow muscle filled with melengestrol acetate. Bob’s sales tanked and Dave’s couldn’t keep up with demand. When PETA publicly endorsed Dave’s Burgers for making their burgers with black beans and lentils, it was the last straw. Pizza was more popular with the villagers than ever before.

The Power of Imagery with Nina Schuyler

September 12 & 13 on Zoom
Enrollment closes Thursday, September 3 at 7:00 PM Pacific

If your descriptions are vivid but your stories still feel thin, this workshop is for you.

Join award-winning author Nina Schuyler to learn the difference between description, which tells a reader what things look like, and imagery, which carries plot, character, and meaning at the same time.

In just two days, you'll learn to choose images that hold emotion without naming it, pair them so each one deepens the other, and build patterns that gather meaning as the story moves.

🙂 Having been a vegetarian going on for two years now, this story reflected the comments made by some of my friends. Fun to read!

This is very topical. I try not to think about what is in the burgers I eat.

Great humorous ironic twist! Does lead to question “What’s in the pizza?”
