“I’ll be right back, Mom, after the nurses change your bed.”
Ellen walked the familiar hallway of Greenhaven Hospice. Sighing, she stepped onto the wooden deck and gazed at the woods. Behind the pond, two deer emerged from the trees, paused, looked in Ellen’s direction, and moved on.
She’d heard of departed loved ones appearing in the form of deer. Were these her father and brother, gentle souls, waiting to greet Mother? What of Conrad, her older brother? An anguished and angry man.
Moments later, a buck appeared. He stopped, snorted, stamped. Tossing his antlered head, he went off.
Definitely Conrad.
Nicely done. And great title.
