“You’re ugly and stupid and nobody likes you.”
The boy’s mean words hit like fists, but Ben doesn’t say anything back. He stands where he is and doesn’t even drop his eyes.
“If you left here, nobody would miss you. Everybody would be glad.”
Ben’s eyes begin to sting, but he still doesn’t walk away.
“I bet your mom and dad are sorry you were ever born.”
That hurts enough that Ben finally has to step away from his bedroom mirror.
As he wipes his eyes, he thinks, no one else can hurt me today.
He finishes getting ready for school.

what cruel anguish we put ourselves through and sad that many people could relate to this. this is so well done.
This reminds me of bullies who work for police departments and government agencies.
