His wife lay in a hospital bed drifting in and out of consciousness, an intravenous tube snaking from her arm.
She’d been found the other morning lying on the kitchen floor, battered to within an inch of her life. The cops thought someone had tried to murder her. He wondered if they knew for sure.
She stirred, blinked away tears, and gazed at him through bloodshot eyes.
He leaned over, deftly puncturing the tube with a poison-filled syringe. He watched her life slowly drain away.
She was determined to live. But he was more determined to finish what he had started.
