In the summer when Dicker left the front windows open, his iguana George would climb up the brickwork to sunbathe on the roof, then come back down for a day-old mouse or some hoppers. When the iguana died, Dicker froze it. It lay in a drawer between the chicken dippers and Ben & Jerry’s.
A month later he bought another iguana, named it Charlie. Some nights he would take George from the freezer and have play fights with Charlie. Frozen George was much bigger than Charlie, but Charlie would puff himself up and hiss like crazy, which was really quite impressive.
This is a cracker! Kafka meets Dr. Suess. A beautiful blend of hilarity and grotesquerie.
Peter,
That Iguana may still be sleeping in the bottom of my folks chest freezer lol
