The strongest smell: my dog, his outstretched legs touching the glass door. Today is drenched and dripping, his favorite weather. Wet dog perfume permeates the kitchen, overpowering the citrus scent of Earl Grey.
Words wither like frostbitten buds. I don’t want them to die. I want them to surge like a swollen river and leap like swordfish into the sun.
Water drips from the patio beams outside. Silver words. They tumble like jewels from the cold blue light of day into my mind.
The smell of animal. Silver words. My dog, asleep. And the joy of writing about him, years later.
Sweetly written and most poignant.
