Dr. Bob, a veterinarian for seventy years, renowned for his extraordinary diagnostic skills, was now suffering from aphasia. He wandered exam rooms diagnosing by sight: “Ear infection, hairballs, heart murmur.” He was always right.
The clinic’s practice manager, Mr. Smith, believing “the demented old man” a potential liability, decided to ban him.
Dr. Bob’s loyal nurse pleaded, “If you bar him from the clinic, he will curl up and die.” Smith answered, “Business comes first.”
When Smith confronted him, Dr. Bob studied him then said, “Enlarged prostate.”
When Smith returned from seeing his internist, Dr. Bob’s presence was never questioned again.
