Drawing Deductions

Drawing Deductions

By Janet Stevenson

I felt helpless sitting by my husband’s bedside when he went into hospice, because I couldn’t do a damn thing but pay attention to his pain and listen for his last push of air.

Weeks after his death, I began to think about my joy of painting and was ready to be creative again; although standing next to every color of paint imaginable, I just stare at a blank canvas on the easel.

In an emotional outburst, I weep and slobber over the brushes. I can’t reason why the chill of death keeps me from drawing, no matter how I try.

The Power of Imagery with Nina Schuyler

September 12 & 13 on Zoom
Enrollment closes Thursday, September 3 at 7:00 PM Pacific

If your descriptions are vivid but your stories still feel thin, this workshop is for you.

Join award-winning author Nina Schuyler to learn the difference between description, which tells a reader what things look like, and imagery, which carries plot, character, and meaning at the same time.

In just two days, you'll learn to choose images that hold emotion without naming it, pair them so each one deepens the other, and build patterns that gather meaning as the story moves.
