I woke up with a jerk. Everything felt unfamiliar. The soft bed underneath, the opaque ceiling overhead, and most of all the arm of the woman over my chest. I wondered if I had fallen into fornication. Then, memory caught up. She stirred.
“What’s the matter?” my wife asked. “Another nightmare?”
I looked at my wrinkled hand in the light of the moon. I was old.
“What were you dreaming of?” she asked.
“War,” I said as sleep lulled me in, and my eyes grew heavy. “I think I will be there for a while.”
She nuzzled closer. “Don’t be long.”
Really good!!
