She fell in love with his scars, his jagged ear. Evidence of life on the streets. He soon became obsessed with her. Always watching, tracking her movements, but never letting himself get too close. Her attempts at affection met with a grumble and retreat.

Yet at night he climbs into the bed they share, tugging at her blankets. Grateful for the gesture, she buries her face in his warm neck. He lies beside her, allowing himself to be held for a moment. For her, it is enough. Then he rises, stretches, and claims his place at the foot of her bed.

Very clever at the end but, more importantly, quite warm and moving 🙂

A beautiful tribute to the dog with grit, and to the writer who fell in love with him.

Lovely piece of work with that faint wash of sadness so difficult to pull off yet perfected here.

A dog??? I thought it was a cat, but guess it really doesn’t matter if you are a dog person or a cat person.. but cats rule.. well done!

Gotta be a cat for sure. You never own a cat, but they have no problem renting themselves out for free food and a warm place to sleep.
