Escape

By John White

Aromas of frankincense and the warmth of a coffee cup helped me settle in my seat. The Entoto Mountains and burning pyres had stolen my breath, but hospitality and intrigue from strangers gave me comfort in unfamiliar surroundings.

My breath was taken once more when a confused figure approached, daring to gain eye contact. Hands reached towards me, with menace only coming from the clouds above.

I smiled, struggling to comprehend, and noticed feet gnarled by years of uncovered steps. After a time I walked away, but like the chains around his feet, it was an image too heavy to shake.

The Power of Imagery with Nina Schuyler

September 12 & 13 on Zoom
Enrollment closes Thursday, September 3 at 7:00 PM Pacific

If your descriptions are vivid but your stories still feel thin, this workshop is for you.

Join award-winning author Nina Schuyler to learn the difference between description, which tells a reader what things look like, and imagery, which carries plot, character, and meaning at the same time.

In just two days, you'll learn to choose images that hold emotion without naming it, pair them so each one deepens the other, and build patterns that gather meaning as the story moves.

I like how it ends. The image that lingers. Thumbs up.

Very nice writing, packed with powerful imagery from word one to the last.
