Eternal Embrace

December 22, 2021 14 Comments

By Vincent Manta

My parents planned perfectly, even in death. Dad went first, Mom moments later.

They were old and spent their lives together. Their last request was to be buried in the same coffin.

My sisters and I dismissed this as weird but organized a joint funeral. Two caskets. Our family paid respects at the wake and we moved on to the burial.

We arranged for them to rest side by side.

Dad went under with ease.

However, there was trouble moving Mom. Her coffin slipped and fell open, revealing our parents nestled in each other’s arms.

They were buried as they wished.

The Power of Imagery with Nina Schuyler

September 12 & 13 on Zoom
Enrollment closes Thursday, September 3 at 7:00 PM Pacific

If your descriptions are vivid but your stories still feel thin, this workshop is for you.

Join award-winning author Nina Schuyler to learn the difference between description, which tells a reader what things look like, and imagery, which carries plot, character, and meaning at the same time.

In just two days, you'll learn to choose images that hold emotion without naming it, pair them so each one deepens the other, and build patterns that gather meaning as the story moves.

I’ve been getting fed up, well with almost everything. I know that God sent me to this world to be a writer but, strange as it appears even to me, for my writings, there are no takers !
Disgusted, I was trying to find out if I can take part in some contests for free.
Lucky for me, as, for once I came across a genuine website for flash fiction. I was surprised to find a story to boot!
I hurried through it. God! What a beautiful story! Extraordinary language, even better theme. The climax and the ending left me breathless, speechless.
I know now why I don’t make it to the magazines and all. There are far better talents all over the globe.
Thanks for writing and sharing such a heart-touching story. All the best.

A simple and very moving story, but not without a beautiful twist in the end.

A beautiful story that perfectly encompasses the experience of being truly in love, and the feelings that come with it that not only stand the test of time but persevere in spite of it. Your stories are, as always, well-written, inspired and a testament to your talent for painting true-to-life portraits of feelings that I didn’t think could ever be expressed so well in so few words. Absolutely breathtaking!

Shades of Rod Serling – nice surprise ending that was meaningful in several ways about love transcending convention as well as being semi-comedic – it put smile of satisifaction on my face as well as an admiration for the loving couple.
