Expectations

January 20, 2022 2 Comments

By Caterina Evangelista

The words, “You have schizophrenia,” beleaguered Juan as he lay in an asylum, being restrained, suffocated, submerged in water, a singular voice in his mind springing wings and rising louder. He escaped, returning to his empty house, but not his home. Afterward, he sleepwalked to a funeral home and climbed into a casket with a body inside it, causing watchers to scream. Soon homeless, Juan walked out of the bank penniless and was shot, a hole bursting through him like a flower forced to bloom before Spring arrived. Death, dressed in white and drenched in honeysuckle, embraced Juan. He was relieved.

The Power of Imagery with Nina Schuyler

September 12 & 13 on Zoom
Enrollment closes Thursday, September 3 at 7:00 PM Pacific

If your descriptions are vivid but your stories still feel thin, this workshop is for you.

Join award-winning author Nina Schuyler to learn the difference between description, which tells a reader what things look like, and imagery, which carries plot, character, and meaning at the same time.

In just two days, you'll learn to choose images that hold emotion without naming it, pair them so each one deepens the other, and build patterns that gather meaning as the story moves.
