Facing Her

March 3, 2024 2 Comments

By Venkat Raman

Death sat with a chess board, smiling. “Each move decides one year of your life,” she said deviously.

I sat at the table knowing that I had no chance of defeating her. I had played less than a dozen games all my life. I could walk away but I chose not to. If the next few years of my life were to be spent with adversity, so be it.

“Knight to F3,” I said confidently and moved the piece. She was going to slaughter me but with an open mind, I would learn. That would be the rest of my life.

The Power of Imagery with Nina Schuyler

September 12 & 13 on Zoom
Enrollment closes Thursday, September 3 at 7:00 PM Pacific

If your descriptions are vivid but your stories still feel thin, this workshop is for you.

Join award-winning author Nina Schuyler to learn the difference between description, which tells a reader what things look like, and imagery, which carries plot, character, and meaning at the same time.

In just two days, you'll learn to choose images that hold emotion without naming it, pair them so each one deepens the other, and build patterns that gather meaning as the story moves.

Very interesting twist on a common theme. Clever.

In its own way, this is filled with so much hope.
