I recall, as a teen, an incident on the beach where I was surrounded by a group of boys trying to beat me, claiming I had stolen a ball they were playing with. I had asked to join their game and they had agreed; so I was shocked to hear their accusation and see them homing in on me. My mother saw and came to assist, much to their mockery of how “I was not really a man because I was hiding behind my mother.” Yet none of them came any closer when they saw that broken bottle in my hand.
The Power of Imagery with Nina Schuyler
September 12 & 13 on Zoom
Enrollment closes Thursday, September 3 at 7:00 PM Pacific
If your descriptions are vivid but your stories still feel thin, this workshop is for you.
Join award-winning author Nina Schuyler to learn the difference between description, which tells a reader what things look like, and imagery, which carries plot, character, and meaning at the same time.
In just two days, you'll learn to choose images that hold emotion without naming it, pair them so each one deepens the other, and build patterns that gather meaning as the story moves.
I enjoyed your piece and loved the contrast
Bullies are bad news.
