Fellow Travellers

January 1, 2025 6 Comments

By Glynis Goyns

They met on the first day of school and journeyed together from childhood to adulthood, their mutual understanding deepening with time. She delighted in his sense of mischief and soothed his quick temper. He basked in her smile and challenged her lack of adventure.

It ended two months after retirement from the mine where he’d worked, waiting to fulfil his dream of farming. He died in searing heat and exhaustion fighting a veld fire to save the cattle’s grazing.

She was lost in silence and bewilderment for weeks, then quietly stepped across the threshold to join him on the other side.

The Power of Imagery with Nina Schuyler

September 12 & 13 on Zoom
Enrollment closes Thursday, September 3 at 7:00 PM Pacific

If your descriptions are vivid but your stories still feel thin, this workshop is for you.

Join award-winning author Nina Schuyler to learn the difference between description, which tells a reader what things look like, and imagery, which carries plot, character, and meaning at the same time.

In just two days, you'll learn to choose images that hold emotion without naming it, pair them so each one deepens the other, and build patterns that gather meaning as the story moves.

Loved this…reminded me of sitting with my Grammie, at Grampie’s funeral. They had been married for 75 years. We sat in silence, then she reached over, patted my hand, and said, “It was too soon.”

    Now that’s love!
