Fight in Melody

January 12, 2025 8 Comments

By Kyle Hina

Silence—a canvas. Quiet as the answer to my doubt and empty as the room in which I sit. Yet waiting, begging anxiously to be filled.

Or maybe that’s just me?

Either way, I’m happy to oblige. Not just happy—unable to do otherwise.

My pick hand hovers over the strings, hard plastic over tightly wound steel. The fingers on my left hand are all twisted and gnarled, like a wizard’s summoning staff.

When I strum, the whole room sighs with relief. I breathe the healing spell deeply, fully.

Some call it music but I know the truth. This is magic.

The Power of Imagery with Nina Schuyler

September 12 & 13 on Zoom
Enrollment closes Thursday, September 3 at 7:00 PM Pacific

If your descriptions are vivid but your stories still feel thin, this workshop is for you.

Join award-winning author Nina Schuyler to learn the difference between description, which tells a reader what things look like, and imagery, which carries plot, character, and meaning at the same time.

In just two days, you'll learn to choose images that hold emotion without naming it, pair them so each one deepens the other, and build patterns that gather meaning as the story moves.
