Figurines

August 21, 2020 1 Comment

By Isaiah Duey

Joe bunched the hem of his shirt on one hand, slowly typing his application number with the other. His heart beating rapidly was the only thing that could be heard in the room full of religious figurines. He’d prayed to every single one of them, even blessed the pencils he used for the exams.

He used to laughed at his friends, their noses buried in books all day. “They lacked faith,” he said.

But his world shattered when he clicked the status of his application. Unfortunately was the first word he saw. Feeling betrayed, Joe stared at their eyes seemingly unfazed.

The Power of Imagery with Nina Schuyler

September 12 & 13 on Zoom
Enrollment closes Thursday, September 3 at 7:00 PM Pacific

If your descriptions are vivid but your stories still feel thin, this workshop is for you.

Join award-winning author Nina Schuyler to learn the difference between description, which tells a reader what things look like, and imagery, which carries plot, character, and meaning at the same time.

In just two days, you'll learn to choose images that hold emotion without naming it, pair them so each one deepens the other, and build patterns that gather meaning as the story moves.

How quickly we lose faith when the big disappointment comes. Well done.
