The rookie cop surveyed the scene in shocked silence. The pink SUV had smashed through the front of the building and come to rest in the kitchen. Bricks strewn everywhere.
Tears welled as he looked at the house his father had built. He recognised the car too and knew it was his sister’s.
He’d experienced devastation before. It felt like only yesterday he’d been a fireman and shortly before that, a soldier.
His scream erupted and then she was there. Soothing and calming.
“It’s OK, Johnny,” his mother said. “We’ll make Sally apologise and Daddy will help you rebuild the Lego.”
Loved this. Perfectly crafted with an ending that made me smile.
