“Four more seconds!” John roared.
My chest burned as my hands clenched sporadically.
“Dude.” Ted pointed at me. “He’s turning red!”
He sounded concerned but John was laughing. Both held cigarettes between index and middle fingers. Each burned in the night like pellets of ember.
I wheezed and smog whirled from the slit of my mouth. I doubled over as Ted smacked my back while John fanned the smoke.
“You almost did it,” Ted muttered encouragingly.
“Fuck,” I rasped.
“Dude, it was jitters,” chimed in John. “You’ll get it next time.”
Both dragged their cigarettes as I coughed. “Hand me another.”
Well written, but sad to read.
How is it sad to read? That wasn’t the emotion I was going for lol
I hate to reading about a kid taking the first step to cigarette addiction, which can destroy his life. I liked the story though, and different readers will react differently.
